Shooting on the streets of Rome
Deckchair was founded in 2004, as an independent new writing film & theatre company, by writer & director Harry Otto Brünjes with sister and producer Emma Brünjes.
Deckchair provided a professional platform for Harry’s plays and films whilst still at University. Stage productions of Harold Pinter’s ‘The Hothouse’ and Harry’s play ‘Good Name’ soon followed. Films at the time included a trilogy of shorts called ‘Material Trivial’, ‘Pathetic Aesthetic’ and ‘Action Distraction’. On stage was ‘the most ambitious production the Bloomsbury had ever seen’ in Bobby Fishkin’s ‘Richard III’ at the Bloomsbury theatre.
In-between studies Harry travelled to Italy to write the play ‘Terribilita, the Legend of Michelangelo’ where he worked at the Vatican as an art historical tour-guide. From his experiences there, he returned to Rome in 2006 to shoot the feature film ‘La Bella Figura’. Made for only £65, in London this brought Deckchair to the attention of top international talents and companies who helped with the completion of the film.
Other Deckchair ventures have included pilots for travel series ‘The Lost Traveller’ and ‘Living History’, test commercials for Tiffany & Co and Calvin Klein, and a 14-play theatre festival ‘City Shorts’ at the Pleasance theatre, London.
Corporate commissions followed, contracting bespoke plans for high calibre brands including Valderrama Golf Club, DHL and Capita Health, evolving in the process an original service model as a creative organisation.
Working with world class talent and prestigious clients alike, Deckchair is continuing to expand its brand of work for new clients gloabally, attracting some of the UK’s top original young writer-directors.
