In October 2012, Deckchair Artistic Director Harry Otto Brünjes had the fortunate experience of being accepted to Ondarte, a unique artists residence in Akumal Mexico. Curated by ex-hollywood actor turned award-winning artist Alec Von Bargen, Ondarte goes far beyond the average writers residency. Each month Ondarte produces a public show and gallery for its international artists, all of whom are carefully selected by Alec and his commitee including renowned painter Luca Bray and director Maribel Bianchi. Consequently Ondarte is a great attraction to journalists and industries far and wide, in addition to being a central attraction to the local community.

Set a stones throw from the Carribean sea in a palapa-constructed community on the edge of the Mayan jungle, Ondarte is an inspirational setting for creativity and cutlural exchange.

Whilst writer-in-residence, Harry was accompanied by visual artist Luce Raggi from Faenza in Italy, painter Delilah Benitez from New Jersey USA, musical writer/performer Maija Sydänmaanlakka from Helsinki Finland, Sculptor Karl Saliter from New York USA, singer Sasha Sundari from London and local Akumalian photographer Scott Brown.

Harry's show involved a public reading of his screenplay for his up-coming film ‘Innocence Restored’ together with a tequila-complimented open air screening of 'La Bella Figura' on the roof under the stars.
